Confession: I hate planks

Hate is such a strong word and is often used in an exaggerated manner.  It is rare that the feelings evoked during pure hatred manifest when a person proclaims they "hate" something or someone.

And yet I hate planks.

Ok, you guessed it: I am exaggerating.  But my proclamation for hating planks hold some truth to it.  Not only do I find them awkward and tedious to perform, but I'm flat-out bad at them.

Now that we have established that me sucking at planks propels my blind hatred for them, it is time to do something about it.  Normally when I suck at an exercise, I avoid them until my overall fitness level improves, and then make strides to work on improving (this worked well with push ups).  With planks, though, I really feel an immediate need to improve my core strength and stability.

Currently, I can hold a decent plank for a good 30-45 seconds.  I thought that was normal until I discovered that some people can hold them for minutes at a time.  Yikes!

My next fitness goal is to be able to hold a good plank for 90 seconds to two minutes.  It'll take some practice, but I think this is obtainable.

But urggh, how I loathe them...
